The Vinicius Souza saga seems to be coming to a close with the midfielder flying to Spain for signing talks with Espanyol.
The Barcelona-based club can’t offer Champions League football but playing in La Liga is a step up the ladder for the midfielder who spent last season in the Belgian league with Mechelen.
Celtic were first linked with Souza in the Daily Mail on June 9 but recent events suggested that it was unlikely that the 23-year-old would be heading to Scotland despite Ange Postecoglou’s reputation within the City Football Group.

UPDATE: Espanyol and Real Betis have made loan offers for Lommel SK defensive midfielder Vinicius Souza. City Football Group would prefer a straight loan, with no option-to-buy clause, as they’d rather not sell.
Celtic are strong in terms of numbers in midfield but Souza looked capable of adding real quality to the defensive midfield role that only Callum McGregor seems trusted to play in.
With just over three weeks to go until the opening SPFL match at home to Aberdeen Postecoglou will be looking to sign someone this month even though the transfer window is open until the end of August.
