Moritz Jenz well join Celtic on a season long loan with Lorient negotiating an option for the deal to be made permanent.

The Berlin-born defender is under contract with Lorient until June 2026 but one year into that deal he is on his way to impress Ange Postecoglou.

Last summer Celtic negotiated similar deals with Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers that were converted into permanent moves after two highly successful seasons. Both of those players arrived expecting to go straight into the starting XI as Postecoglou rebuilt the squad, with Jenz there are two well established defenders already in place.

Mark Hendry of Football Scotland has tweeted:

EXCLUSIVE! Moritz Jenz set for season-long Celtic loan switch from Lorient to join Aaron Mooy at Parkhead Hoops wanted player last year before he left Lausanne-Sport. Option to buy still being negotiated between clubs

Hendry was first to report Celtic’s interest in Alexandro Bernabei and appears to have developed a reliable contact inside the club.

Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt are the established first choice central defenders, if Jenz is to become a permanent signing he will have to get some significant game time.

Starfelt is currently out injured with Stephen Welsh impressing in central defence alongside Carter-Vickers with less than two weeks to go until the SPFL season starts with a visit from Aberdeen.
