Schalke and Real Betis are reported to have joined Celtic, Fenerbahce and others in the race to sign Vinicius Souza from Lommel.

Following a season on loan at Mechelen the midfielder has a host of clubs interested in taking him from Lommel, either on loan or on a permanent basis.

As part of the City Football Group Lommel are experienced in player trading with clubs across the globe feeding in information on how to maximise transfer fees.

Until a year ago Ange Postecoglou was part of that process as manager of Yokohama Marinos which could give Celtic an advantage although competition from clubs in Germany and Spain will be hard to overcome.

Picking up on a report from the Daily Mail, the Daily Record reports:

The transfer chase for Celtic target Vinicius Souza is hotting up after Schalke joined the race to land the Brazilian.

Real Betis are also in the hunt with the Lommel player a man in demand across Europe. The Hoops have held talks with the midfielder’s representatives. A loan deal with an option to buy is on the table.

But the Daily Mail now reports that the German and Spanish outfits are in contention to land the 23-year-old as well. Schalke are looking to strengthen in the middle of the pitch despite already adding Tom Krauss to their squad ahead of their return to the Bundesliga. Die Konigsblauen looked set to land Christopher Jullien from Celtic last week, but the move collapsed due to issues with the Frenchman’s medical.

Fenerbahce’s need seems the most pressing with a Champions League qualifier against Dinamo Kiev on July 20.

With a contract running until June 2025 Lommel are very much in the driving seat determining the next move in Souza’s career.
