Alfredo Morelos looks like missing the start of the season.

The striker hasn’t played in four months after requiring thigh surgery following a trip to Colombia that resulted in him being sent back to the UK for surgery.

Morelos has enjoyed a solid summer of partying from Seville to Colombia but three weeks after pre-season training resumed most of his work is being carried out in the gym.

New signing Antonio Colak was the only player to get a full 90 minutes in the pre-season friendly at Blackpool on Saturday with the PAOK flop likely to start the season as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s only available striker.

Speaking to the Glasgow Times the Dutchman admitted:

Morelos is doing partial training with the team now, Filip is still not training with us he had a setback so we have to wait and see how that is developing.

With Helander out and Leon Barisic released van Bronckhorst has very limited central defensive options while Calvin Bassey completes a move to Ajax.

John Souttar, James Sands and Nicky Katic have very little experience which might explain the rush to sign Ben Davies from Liverpool Reserves with just two weeks to go until the Third Qualifying Round to the Champions League.

Morelos and Helander are both out of contract in May with no sign of new contracts being discussed.
