Kemar Roofe has missed out on pre-season training in Portugal and is a major doubt for the start of the season.

The former Anderlecht star is one of the highest paid players at Ibrox but has been dogged by injury problems over the last 12 months.

With Alfredo Morelos stuck in the gym and not seen on the training ground Giovanni van Bronckhorst is likely to push new signing Antonio Colak into action tomorrow night when his side take on Sunderland in a friendly match.

The Sun reports:

RANGERS have been rocked after Kemar Roofe suffered yet another injury blow.

The striker has not travelled with the rest of the Gers squad to Portugal after hobbling out of pre-season training.

Roofe has remained in Glasgow for treatment and is now a major doubt for the Premiership kick-off on July 30.

SunSport understands the Jamaica international broke down just days after Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad reported back from their summer break.

Roofe was plagued by injury issues at his previous two clubs, Anderlecht and Leeds, and it has been a similar story for the hitman during his two years in Scotland. During the summer he travelled to Turkey for a hair transplant.

Van Bronckhorst’s side start their SPFL campaign away to Livingston on July 30 with the Champions League qualifiers starting a couple of days later.

Colak is being billed as van Bronckhorst’s first choice transfer target but has achieved little of note in his career beyond a scoring burst on loan at Malmo last season where he scored 14 goals in 26 appearances. In 21 appearances for PAOK Colak scored two goals.
