Celtic are reported to have signed Justin Osagie from West Ham.

The 17-year-old defender is likely to go straight into Stephen McManus’ B team squad that is competing in the Lowland League for the second successive season.

There is a lively exchange of teenage players between Scotland and England, earlier this year Celtic lost Ben Doak to Liverpool with Armstrong Oko Flex quitting the hoops for West Ham last summer.

At 14.04 today, the Daily Record reported:

Celtic have snapped up highly-rated West Ham United youngster Justin Osagie with the player appearing to be pictured a Parkhead. The 17-year-old versatile star is a central defender who can also operate in midfield and is eligible to play for England and Nigeria.

Osagie joined the Hammers two years ago as a schoolboy with the east London outfit reportedly beating a string of English Premier League sides, including north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, to land the rising star.

With an impressive pedigree Osagie looks to be a good addition to the Celtic squad but the ages of 17-19 can be a minefield as players attempt to convert their promise in the world of Academy football into the professional game.

Under McManus and Darren O’Dea the new bhoy has two coaches that know all about the difficulties and challenges to come through the ranks to play at the highest level.

On Saturday Celtic kicked off their campaign in the Lowland League with a 3-1 home win over Cowdenbeath, tomorrow night they cross the border to take on Berwick Rangers.
