Ange Postecoglou was in no mood to praise his title winners with Jota namechecked as being wasteful in the 2-0 win over Aberdeen to open the defence of the SPFL Premiership trophy.

The former Benfica man provided the highlight of the day with a glorious 25 yard goal in the 75th minute but his manager wasn’t impressed by the 73 minute delay between goals.

In the first half hour Celtic completely dominated Aberdeen, swarming forward at every opportunity as they flooded the wings and centre of the park.

There was plenty of football that was pleasing on the eye but the end product was weak with players taking one touch too many around the penalty box when a scoring chance was on.

Postecoglou likes his players to express themselves and entertain the fans but he never loses sight of the fact that the best form of entertainment is to put the ball regularly in the net.

Were Celtic wasteful around goal against Aberdeen?

Yes, Ange has called it right, we need to be ruthless

No, they did fine, the sharpness will soon be there

Not too bad. We started the game really well in the first half hour. We got a bit slack towards the end of the first half. Our passing got lax and we weren’t as aggressive. Second half we addressed that. Overall a dominant performance but wasteful in front of goal.

You can be patient but if the chances are there take them. I thought we were wasteful with our decision making in front of goal. We’ve got goalscorers throughout the team but it was just a bit of decisiveness we lacked.”

It’s a good goal. He’s (Jota) got that in his locker where he can take people on. I thought he started well but he was one of the main culprits to why we fell away.

I said to the boys you can have lofty ambitions but you can’t be at 95% and achieve what we want. They addressed that in the second half.

It’s game one of 50 odd game season so there’s no one here more important than anyone else.

Celtic seemed to die after about half an hour. Aberdeen came into it more and if they had pushed on they would have equalised. Then Celtic would have been chasing the three points. Very frustrating to watch supporters in the stadium were getting a bit nervy. Ange called it right it was disappointing. Not what he wants. Need to punish teams and not make life difficult.
