Watch Red Card Bassey! It took Dutch referee just 14 minutes to suss out former Ibrox star

For two seasons Calvin Bassey enjoyed the red card immunity blanket thrown over all things Ibrox by Scottish referees. 

The former Leicester starlet quickly discovered that anything goes when you pull on the cherished blue Castore Sports shirt, in the Scottish Cup semi-final Bassey was able to boot Tom Rogic all over Hampden, at one stage he performed a rugby tackle on the Australian with just a friendly word of warning from Bobby Madden as a deterrent.

Last night the £8m defender got to make his Ajax debut, starting on the bench against PSV Eindhoven but sent on as a substitute with the score at 2-2. 

Clattering into opponents and being a split second too later in the tackle is punished outside of Scotland, 14 minutes into his Ajax debut and Bassey was shown a yellow card. 

When the referee was prompted to review the incident by the VAR official it was the first red card of Bassey’s career and a reminder that Dutch officials don’t care for the colour of the jersey as they apply the Laws of the Game.
