Another reported Celtic exit as Lennon signing moves on

Chris Jullien has completed his move from Celtic, three years after joining the club from Toulouse.

It has certainly been a contrasting period for the defender with strong memories from scoring the winning goal in a cup final and against Napoli to a long term injury, the miseries of lockdown and a new manager rebuilding the club while he was unavailable.

Earlier this summer a move to Schalke broke down but today he returned to France, signing a three year contract with Montpellier as L’Equipe reported:

MHSC hold their right-handed centre-back. As revealed on the L’Équipe website on Monday, Christopher Jullien arrived in Montpellier on Tuesday morning for his medical examination. It was very important since the 29-year-old has hardly played for more than a year and a half and a serious knee injury on December 30, 2020.

But the examinations, pushed, did not show anything worrying. The ex-Toulousain, who has already evolved under the orders of Olivier Dall’Oglio in Dijon during the 2015-2016 season, has therefore signed up for the next three seasons with the Pailladin club. The MHSC paid € 1 million, excluding bonuses, to buy out his last year of contract at Celtic.

Through Google Translate that last line leaves things a little open, it is unclear whether Celtic were paid €1 million or if the player was paid that sum as the remainder of his Celtic contract.

Over the last year the issue of Jullien has been something of a distraction.

Had he been fit and available when Ange Postecoglou joined the club he could have been a key player but with new defenders needed and an expensive contract ticking down the Australian invested his faith in Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt. That judgement can’t be criticised.

Albian Ajeti and James McCarthy are the last remaining big earners on the outside of the Celtic squad. With solutions found over Boli Bolingoli and Vasilis Barkas, the club will be hopeful of further outgoings in the remaining eight days of transfer activity.

Another expensive mistake under the oversight of Mr. Bankier. Glad he’s finally out and Mr. Bankier as well!

It is a personal opinion, but Mr. Bankier is a waannker. He’s a mason and he was in place to appease the masons in and around the place., like the City Council, the SPFL, the SFA, the media and all that dirty lot in football financial matters.

How else did we end up with Ajeti, Barkas and Jullien unless someone was asleep on their watch: that would be Bankier the!. Desmond trusted him, but he was a dope, a dupe.

He listened to his associates for information because he couldn’t think for himself. That is how we got shafted for £17 million for those three and yes, he was in charge when we lost the Ten. Just a dud!

So goodbye Mr. Bankier. Few will be sad at your passing!

Sorry but Julien was a great player for us so “The Maister” you must be on the wind up ?
Agree wholeheartedly about your comments on Bankier etc but not Julien.
HIs problem when he got fit was called Cameron Carter Vickers .. as both could only play on the right hand side of a 2 man partnership and as CCV was holding the jersey it made sense that the big fella was moved on and I wish him well in the future.
Just an aside for Joe … “scoring the winning goal in a cup final and against Napoli ” cant remember the Napoli game meself … Lazio yeah but Napoli ??

You said it mate. Problems is all Jullien brought. If you think he was a Celtic Great, then good for you, that’s your opinion! But as long as you’re happy to pay his wages!

Not putting him in the “Celtic Great” category just saying that he did play some important games and can count more good performances than bad ones. Scored some good important goals for us but unfortunately his time had come and we got a more than capable replacement in CCV.
Again regarding the Tory shite we have in the boardroom I am 100% in agreement with you and hope to christ that Lawell doesnt make a return! For all the good that he may have done in the beginning, the fact that after all the years of dominance locally we have struggled big time in europe .. mainly because he didnt act quickly enough getting the players that the manager wanted!
