Ange Postecoglou is hoping to have Giorgos Giakoumakis available for Wednesday’s League Cup tie away to Ross County.

The striker was missing from the Celtic squad at Tannadice yesterday, after links to EPL clubs in midweek there were a few fans wondering about the absence of Giakoumakis when the team was announced at 10.45am yesterday.

Fortunately, or unfortunately for the striker, he was unwell rather than in signing talks for a move elsewhere.

The absence of Giakoumakis didn’t directly impact on Celtic’s goal threat but it did highlight one area that may be strengthened.

An injury to the former VVV Venlo striker or Kyogo Furuhashi would suddenly increase the dependency on the other at a time when there is a glut of fixtures.

Daizen Maeda replaced Kyogo for the last half hour of the match although the former Yokohama Marinos man is most effective buzzing up and down the left flank.
