Last season it took Celtic until 9.40pm on February 2 to get to the top of the SPFL Premiership.

On 21 August 2022 Ange Postecoglou’s side returned to top spot, two points clear after four matches with every intention of staying there. A 100% record this season and a 36 match unbeaten run in the SPFL will have the bookmakers tightening their odds for a second successive title.

Yesterday’s performance didn’t match the heights achieved in the previous three matches but as every fan knows it is a 38 match marathon rather than a sprit that produces a variety of performances. Three points are awarded for results not the quality of play or any of the mass of stats that accompany every match.

After the match Postecoglou and his squad thanked the fans, as they circled the ground there was barely an empty space in section 111 as the Green Brigade hailed the league leaders.

Next Sunday Celtic are at Dundee United, following a midweek League Cup tie at Ross County they return home for the Glasgow derby- the fixture that they went top with in February and held onto until the title was decided.

Celtic have been top of the league since the first game of the season, albeit on goal difference rather than points. The only times they haven’t been there were when The Rangers played and collected points 24 hours before Celtic.
