Celtic fans were quick to show their appreciation of Ally McCoist in a thread started by Off The Ball on BBC Scotland.

It is difficult to know where to start with the cheeky chappie who has been the driving force behind more than a decade of The Banter Years.

From managing his beloved club to defeats from Malmo and Maribor to the tears in Seville when Aaron Ramsey missed a penalty it has been laughs and gags all the way with the media darling at the centre of attention.

Over the last week he has been showing his dignified anger about Celtic fans clapping in disrespect- this is the same person that joined John Brown, Derek Ferguson, Richard Gough and other singing about their hatred in the away dressing room at Tannadice in 1989. The same guy that claimed Donald Findlay was a scapegoat.

There are genuinely hundreds of McCoist incidents that have brightened up the lives of many over the last decade.

As a manager of both clubs he won two lower division championships then walked away after losing a Challenge Cup semi-final to Alloa after leading 2-0, a League Cup semi final with Celtic was two months away when he doubled his salary on gardening leave.

The bottom line has always been the only line for Coisty, his reservations about the new club were bought and paid for with shares costing 1p that were later on a Stock Market offering to gullible bears for 70p, thousands weighed in.

Whether it was Craig Whyte, Charles Green or whoever was in charge they all knew that there was a price to be agreed for McCoist’s support with thousands falling in line to hand over their cash to dubious Ibrox regimes- backed by the cheeky chappie.

These days McCoist is mainly employed as a pundit, a favourite of English audiences but unable to shake off his complete dislike for Celtic which is shown up weekly by Chris Sutton.

At the age of 60 he still works every shift going, with five kids across two marriages he needs to stay in the spotlight despite the obvious pain that another period of watching winning Celtic teams is causing.

    Sleekit McCoist,

    made a post-playing career pretending he was something he wasn’t;

    neither a competent manager, nor a cheekie chappy, nor a likeable person.
