Leeds United have announced the signing of Rory Mahady from Celtic.

The goalkeeper made an emotional farewell message on Instagram at the weekend as he joined the exodus of Academy prospects opting to move south of the border.

In terms of goalkeepers Celtic have lost Liam Hughes to Liverpool, Vincent Angelini to Watford and now Mahady to Leeds United. In the opposite direction Tobi Oluwayemi joined Celtic from Spurs.

Including Mahady, Leeds today announced:

Leeds United are proud to announce that 10 players have agreed scholarship terms with the club, all signing two-year deals with the academy.

Alongside developing their footballing ability at Thorp Arch, a scholarship with the Whites academy also offers a variety of educational programmes including the BTEC diploma and A Levels, to help extend their skillset both on and off the pitch.

Money will play a part in the exodus of players, which includes Ben Doak to Liverpool and Liam Morrison to Bayern Munch but English and continental clubs have well established structures to develop their youngest players.

At Celtic there is u-18 football against the same faces that players have been up against throughout their Academy days or the Lowland League against sides like Caledonian Braves, Edinburgh University and Cumbernauld Colts.

Neither of those options are likely to produce first team ready Celtic players with the lottery of loan moves the other alternative where Ben Wylie has started just two Airdrie matches in League One.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.
