Ange Postecoglou is looking to have Oliver Abildgaard fully firing for the visit of Motherwell to Celtic Park on October 1.

The midfielder was the final signing of the summer transfer window but is still waiting to make his debut although he was listed as a substitute away to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Abildgaard is on a season long loan from Rubin Kazan but it is hard to imagine a return to Russia regardless of how he fares with Celtic.

Between October 1 and November 12 Celtic have 13 fixtures to play with Postecoglou’s aim to have Abildgaard to call on during that glut of fixtures which includes four Champions League ties.

In terms of Oliver, he is a bit different. He missed all the pre-season and came in late, and wasn’t really training with the team. We just need to be patient with him, and we have two weeks of the international break where we can do some work with him, and I think you’ll see more of him post-international break.

International times at Celtic can be pretty quiet, next week only Joe Hart and Jota of the regular starters will be reporting to Lennoxtown.

Postecoglou and his coaching staff will have to make good use of that time as they prepare for a schedule that will see virtually no time spent on the training ground as the players undergo recovery sessions before going straight back into matches.
