Ange Postecoglou is convinced that his team is on the brink of something special despite picking up just one point from two Champions League matches.

Again Real Madrid last week the hoops were the better side throughout the first half but after going 1-0 down they lost two more goals to the champions of Europe.

Last night I Warsaw Celtic dominated for half an hour, wobbled for 10 minutes then controlled the remainder of the match but had to settle for a point after Mykhaylo Mudryk equalised for Shakhtar Donetsk.

It has been a cruel and costly couple of matches for Celtic over the last 10 days with the manager feeling the pain as much as anyone.

Postecoglou watched his side create and miss half a dozen good scoring chances last night but told The Sun that his side are closing in on the rewards that they deserve:

The performance was excellent. Obviously the result was not reflective of that but I thought in the whole game the players gave everything and that’s all I can ask for.

We needed that second goal and we had good chances to get it. From my perspective I can’t ask for more from the players though.

We will get our rewards if we keep playing that kind of football and showing that sort of commitment.

We have to embrace the fact that everything we get, every goal, every point, every win, is going to be hard-earned. There are no easy ones at this level. We put everything into this game.

We didn’t get the three points but if we keep doing that I think it will give us a chance of being successful in every game we play.

Next up for Celtic is a trip to RB Leipzig on October 5. Obviously a win would be ideal but a repeat of last night’s draw would give the hoops two away points ahead of two home matches and a genuine chance of progressing into the knock-out phase.
