Tam McManus has thrown an unexpected spotlight on The Asterisk Years when Rangers cheated Scottish football by fielding players that they couldn’t afford.

While token salaries were registered with the SFA and SPL the players and management were enjoying fortunes being put into offshore accounts without the deduction of Income Tax for Her Majesty or National Insurance.

Under Dick Advocaat, Alex McLeish and Walter Smith the Rangers club which went into liquidation in 2012 were able to scoop up the trophies, prize money and precious access to UEFA competition with the full knowledge of the SFA.

Stefan Klos, Frank de Boer, Craig Moore, Ronald de Boer, Michael Mols, Michael Ball and others were in the Rangers side that lost that tie on penalties. Manager Alex McLeish enjoyed having £1.7m paid into his ‘EBT’, he was twice appointed manager of Scotland by the SFA.

During his mainstream media appearances in the Daily Record and Peter Martin’s PLZ Soccer Show it is highly unlikely that McManus would raise the issue of the Rangers *wage bill.
