Ange Postecoglou has been explaining one of his easiest transfer deals.

Normally it takes a bit of a hard sell and explaining to bring players to Glasgow, especially when they have a World Cup place to secure.

There is almost always an exception however with the Aaron Mooy deal virtually falling into Postecoglou’s lap. Thanks to a Scottish wife.

Most Scottish fans would need to think hard to remember Mooy’s spell with St Mirren, 30 matches between 2010 and 2012 but wife to be Nicola was out there as a career that covered Australia, England and China got underway.

After two years in China away from his family during a pandemic Mooy needed a club ahead of the World Cup, fortunately his former international boss was across the city in Glasgow.

The Daily Mail reports Postecoglou saying:

It was a unique situation, and with Aaron living in Glasgow, I decided to bring him in. I know he is a quality player and I’m really pleased because we gained a good player for our squad. I knew he could contribute.

With Aaron, he’s definitely on the way there (with form and fitness), his last few games for us have been excellent. If he’s in good physical condition I know Aaron can certainly make an impact and be a big influence.

Callum McGregor’s injury has provided Mooy with additional playing time with the July transfer proving timely for all parties.
