Ange Postecoglou made a surprise appearance on Sky Sports News this morning with Callum McGregor’s injury the first topic for the Celtic boss to discuss.

Thirty-six hours on from the defeat to RB Leipzig an injury to the club captain is causing as much concern as the result.

McGregor’s has been a constant in the Celtic side for the best part of five years, instantly forming a bond with Postecoglou to carry out his instructions on the park.

The two men have been pivotal to Celtic’s evolution and success over the last 15 months but it seems certain that the midfielder will be out of action for at best the next couple of weeks.

Speaking to SSN this morning about McGregor, Postecoglou said:

Still waiting to hear, he’s off to see the specialist this morning, so we’ll just have to wait. For him to come off it is fairly significant, as for time wise we’ll find out today, obviously it is not short term but we’re hoping it is not too long term.

Oliver Abildgaard replaced McGregor against Leipzig on Wednesday night with James McCarthy making a late appearance off the bench.

Postecoglou does have a number of midfield options but none appear to be a straight replacemet for his injured skipper.

Sky Sports News did have some audio issues with the interview but are likely to post it up soon on their Twitter account.
