Liam McLeod, Mr Statto of BBC Scotland attempted to justify his highly selective use of FACTS! On the back of watching the Ibrox Tribute Act get hammered 7-1 by Liverpool.
McLeod is completely incapable of describing tactics or how play is developing in a match but if you want to know how many times Arbroath have won away from home on a Tuesday night in October over the last 100 years he is most certainly your man.
Stitching together the most obscure facts gets him through commentating on any match while viewers or listeners try to make up their own mind about how a match develops.
Bizarrely the BBC stato seems unaware of the biggest scoreline in a domestic cup final, a glorious sunny afternoon 65 years ago that is still celebrated in song till this day although it is unlikely that ‘Oh Hampden In The Sun’ has been heard very often in the studios of BBC Scotland.
On Wednesday night McLeod managed the ultimate in statistical gymnastics when he merged together the two football clubs from Ibrox but body-swerved the 7-1 defeat that the old club suffered against Celtic in the 1957 League Cup Final.
Sharing the grief of the licence payers as Liverpool toyed with the Tribute Act required the upmost diplomacy, informing traumatised bears that their previous club had also been in an eight goal thriller 65 years ago would have been too close to the truth from the highly conflicted state broadcaster.
Embarrassing that guy who bores everyone to death every single game with his constant stats wasn’t aware of the British record scoreline in a cup final.
Embarrassing but expected.
Prior to the Europa League final you’d be forgiven for thinking Rangers had never played Eintracht— Cautious Dave (@cautiousdave) October 13, 2022
Of course. He was going back further, all about the continuity lie.

Yes, he checked the record books ? He was scared to say it. Very deliberate.

It’s a smokin’ hot potato, too hot to handle for kenny mac, Sevco fan’s, espesh the in-house ex rangers* EBT panelists offer zero intelligible football analysis, its all skewed in favor of the EBTallstars, most are conflicted, its a real hot mess & almost into Sevcon1 territory

Spot on with the West Brit. But, McLeod mentioned Huns 6-0 defeat in Madrid, 5-0 at CP, as their worst previous defeats. He purposely left out 7-1 in 1957. Then continued, as for Ibrokes…

He apologised tonight but still refrained for mentioning score?BBC are so staunch

You would expect Liam McLeod, lead football commentator at BBC Scotland, to be aware of Celtic defeating Rangers 7 (seven) – 1 in a Cup Final. Surprising gap in his knowledge. The Arbroath – Bon Accord scoreline is going to blow his mind. https://t.co/wmV99HOr2Z

it was a proper beating but being only 10 years since it formed you must expect these type of defeats against top teams from europe as our own team has experinced some sore ones ourselves this tourement for us this year has been so far really diappointment so lets not crow to much but really enjoyed that 7 goal going in and the we lad blessing himself after it was given lovely.
I think poor Liam was telling us he was different from his cronies at the BBC and he wasn’t going to peddle the continuity lie.
This was Sevco’ s worst result.
Editor: He was able to mention losing six goals to Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt (twice)
He did acknowledge the fact he made a balls up ,.it was so obvious it was done through gritted teeth and freckles . Somebody mentioned MacLeod is an Aberdeen supporter ! Aye , just like McInnes .
