The Sports Live! Team at the Daily Record are speculating over how long Callum McGregor will be out of action.

The Celtic skipper was injured and substituted during the first half of the Champions League defeat from RB Leipzig with no details announced by Ange Postecoglou beyond it doesn’t look good.

With print sales dropping at 18% year on year the Record are desperately trying to establish a digital audience, with a creative team ready to turn their attention to any subject to generate traffic.

Based on the evidence from BT Sports coverage of last night’s match and Postecoglou’s comments Robbie Copeland is drooling over a Chris Jullien like absence or as a consolation 4-6 weeks for a strain that would rule McGregor out of the critical pre-World Cup burst of fixtures.

Filling spaces and chasing clicks, the medical expert on the Record speculate:

McGregor, who would have missedĀ CelticĀ ‘s trip to St Johnstone on Saturday through suspension anyway, will now await an update from the medical team on how long he will face out. It comes at a hugely inconvenient time for his side, though, who have a run of 11 games in just less than a month before the World Cup break.

With Postecoglou confirming it’s a knee problem, it means his injury will fall into one of three broad medical categories: Grade 1, Grade 2, or Grade 3. And Record Sport looks at what this could mean.

With their questionable knowledge of football matters it is unlikely that many Celtic fans will be taking notice of the medical opinions of the Record’s Live Digital team.

Next week they’ll resume stories about Leeds preparing a January swoop for Ryan Kent and speculation that Calvin Bassey is to be short-listed for the Balon d’Or.

In his Record bio Copeland is described as ‘Robbie is a trainee live sports writer for Daily Record Sport, mostly covering Scottish football. He lives in Glasgow and has worked with the company since 2019.’
