The SFA have explained that Kyle Lafferty’s Disciplinary Hearing over sectarian comments was agreed with Kilmarnock.
On September 30 the SFA issued a Notice of Complaint with the hearing set for October 20 allowing the striker to play until that date.
Kilmarnock also announced that the striker had been heavily fined, effectively admitting his guilt but after beating St Johnstone 2-1 last night Derek McInnes justified playing Lafferty by claiming that the delay in the hearing was created by the SFA.
Reacting to that claim, this afternoon the SFA stated:
Following the latest comments from Derek McInnes regarding the Notice of Complaint issued to Kyle Lafferty, the Scottish FA seeks to clarify that the club were offered the opportunity, under rule 10.2.5 of the Judicial Panel Protocol, to bring forward the date of the hearing from October 20 but declined to do so.
The timescales applied under the Judicial Panel Protocol are intended to give those issued with a Notice of Complaint appropriate time to respond to the charge(s) and fully consider their case prior to the hearing date.
It seems typical of the SFA’s approach to disciplinary matters that they allow clubs to negotiate the date of a hearing, basically selecting when would be most convenient for them to have the player available rather than serving a suspension for an incident that he has already admitted his guilt over.
It’s the SFA. Lafferty’s a hun and so is McInness. Simples!
