David Graham has walked away from his job as Communications Director at Ibrox.

The former DUP councillor replaced Jim Traynor in March 2020 and was promoted to a place in the board in December 2021 after pandering all communications towards keeping extremist fan-websites in the loop.

While David Edgar and Mark Dingwall asked the softest of softball questions to Steven Gerrard and Giovanni van Bronckhorst the traditional media partners were locked on the outside.

STV and the Herald/Evening Times were the only mainstream outlets to get on board although things have been noticeably loosened this season.

Two weeks ago deputy-chairman John Bennett savaged the club’s communications in an interview with the Newsquest/Herald title Rangers Review, tonight The Sun announced:

He formally took up a seat on the Ibrox club’s board as communications director back in December.

But he is now leaving the club, with a Rangers spokesman quoted as saying: “We can confirm David Graham has resigned from his position of Communications Director at Rangers.”

Graham loved his high-profile role at Ibrox, hanging around new signings and being seen by the side of Gerrard and van Bronckhorst to cultivate his image as a big hitter.

The company accounts for the year to 30 June 2022 have still to be signed off and published with losses expected as the Sports Direct pay off comes to light.

Replacing Graham in charge of ‘Comms’ is likely to appeal to a number of candidates looking to get out of newspapers before they are included in the next round of redundancies.

With Dave King and Graham now on the outside looking in there are some well connected enemies of the Ibrox board outside the tent.
