SPFL clubs will vote on Tuesday, October 18 for the final go-ahead to introduce VAR.

Trials have been held since the start of the Premiership season with all parties apparently pleased with the success of the technology which has been in place in the EPL since the start of the 2018/19 season.

VAR was expected to be introduced to Scottish football after the World Cup Finals but it seems that the plan now is for an earlier introduction.

Shortly after midnight, Stephen McGowan of the Daily Mail reported:

The SPFL have promised to pursue a sponsor for VAR in a bid to lower the annual cost for cash-strapped clubs.

All 42 senior teams from the SPFL will vote on the introduction of video assistant referees next Tuesday.

In order to proceed, nine clubs from the Premiership need to be in favour, with eight clubs from the Championship and 15 clubs from League One and League Two granting their assent.

On Sunday night, however, league chiefs were increasingly confident of a ‘yes’ vote to implement the system in the top flight after December’s World Cup finals in Qatar — and for the semi-finals and final of next season’s Premier Sports Cup.

The Daily Record claims:

And the Daily Mail state VAR could even be up and running in the top flight in two weeks’ time with the technology set to get the green light. The SFA are poised to announced an update this week, it comes after Scottish FA head of refereeing Crawford Allan revealing the hope to accelerate the launch date.

Hibs’ home clash with St Johnstone on Friday, October 21 was earmarked as a potential start date, however, it could be pushed back to the following weeks with date not set in stone amid the governing body keen to get it right before the big debut. It appeared set to debut after the showpiece event in Qatar but there are positive signs it will be in place before then.

VAR will be in operation at Celtic Park and Ibrox this week, away to RB Leipzig Celtic benefited by having two ‘goals’ disallowed by their opponents with every ‘goal’ given a routine VAR check.

Handball or offside are the main reason for ‘goals’ being disallowed, run of the mill decisions over free-kicks or corners won’t be checked.

During Saturday’s win over St Johnstone Celtic were halted by a number of offside calls, with VAR that won’t be the case with play allowed to continue with the offside or VAR call taken once play has stopped.

Don’t be surprised if the new klub from ibrox make a few objections to it and hold it back, you never know the sponsors of VAR could end being used by the ibrox klub as an excuse because they already have a similar sponsor around their stadium not to allow it.
Just a nice wee food for thought comment put out there for the new klub to put a spanner in the works, remember they CHEATING B******S don’t want it as it will cost their team points goals and penalties awarded against them and penalties will not be given to them.

I for one cannot wait for this to be introduced…. will it still be the SFA’s cheating placemen making the calls – probably – but it makes it that little harder for them and Beaton and co to cheat…

Interestingly I was talking to a Sevco supporter in the pub on Saturday who is dead against VAR in Scotland (surprise surprise there then) – His reasoning – it’ll slow the game down – I told him about Anderson at Perth doing that anyway…. Honestly these Huns live in a parallel universe to the rest of us !

They live in an alternative Universe.
If it was a parallel Universe it would mirror our own.
Which as sure as Flux it doesn’t.
