Kris Boyd has warned Giovanni van Bronckhorst that he has overseen too many capitulations.

On Wednesday night the former Kilmarnock striker tried to laugh off the Liverpool humiliation when he appeared on Sky Sports News but the 7-1 defeat cuts deep.

Van Bronckhorst has been in hiding during Thursday and Friday but any slip up at Motherwell on Sunday will see him hounded by his critics.

Going to Napoli later this month with a Champions League goal difference of 1-16 looks ominous with Boyd warning the Dutchman that he is running out of credit on the run to the Europa League Final.

In The Sun, the former striker warns:

Losing 7-1 to any side, regardless of their star quality, borders on the unforgivable for Rangers.

The worrying thing for van Bronckhorst is that there’s been so many capitulations already this year.

That’s now twice against Liverpool, away to Ajax, at home to Napoli and the Old Firm games — both in February and September — when they went down without so much as a whimper.

For a club of Rangers’ stature that is simply unacceptable. If you lose any game of football at Ibrox there is an inquest.

And if you are spectacularly embarrassed in your own backyard then expect it to last for some time.

There simply cannot be any excuse for that kind of scoreline. It was an exhibition in finishing from Liverpool, but there are players who need to have a good look at themselves.

Boyd will be grinning away for Sky Sports at Fir Park on Sunday.

Maybe Kris Boyd and the rest should consider the level of football about which they are commenting. I would put two questions to them:
Which team in the twenty first century has conceded the most goals in a single European Champions’ League game – Rangers, Celtic, Barcelona or Tottenham?
Which of these teams have won this competition on four occasions in the twentieth century?
