Giovanni van Bronckhorst has denied holding boardroom talks about his Ibrox future.

The Dutchman has been in charge for less than a year but five Champions League defeats and two Celtic Park hammerings have led to many supporters calling for a new manager.

Van Bronckhorst has delivered a European final and Champions League group stage football for the first time ever but dire performances from players that appear to have switched off is causing concern.

With an AGM coming up before the turn of the year sacking the manager could get the board off the hook when they have to show face in front of supporters.

In an unexpected development at today’s media conference van Bronckhorst was asked about meetings to discuss his future.

7 minutes 40 seconds

QUESTION: James Tavernier said that the dressing room is behind you, I just wondered if you’ve had any similar discussions with the board, reassure you about your position.

GVB: No, not, I didn’t have any, of course I have discussions with the board and with Ross (transfer guru Wilson). My future and my position at the moment was never discussed, no.

With a contract running until May 2025 it will be a costly exercise to sack van Bronckhorst and his coaching team but putting them on to gardening leave would spread the burden.

They probably thought that Stevie G sacking would lead to Villains coming in for Euro hero Gio and a multi million compensation package. I think the EPL have Sevco sussed as a non standard of player and/or manager now.
