Giovanni van Bronckhorst has handed out a history lesson to the entitled Ibrox supporters.

Eight wins and a draw from 10 SPFL matches has been matched by a place in the semi-final of the League Cup and their first ever Champions League appearance.

Across social media doom-mongers in the support are slaughtering every aspect of his management despite van Bronckhorst delivering results.

A year ago the wheels were falling off the Gerrard Express as a stale squad became bored of the hearing the same voices on the training ground with Malmo and Lyon trashing Fortress Ibrox on European business.

Listening to Ibrox fans you could easily get the impression that van Bronckhorst has plunged the club into chaos, last night he reminded those fans that their club has won two trophies since they were founded by Charles Green in the summer of 2012.

Question: Do you understand the level of discontent with some fans?

GvB: You know in the last 12 years we haven’t won many trophies, we won one last year when we won the Scottish Cup after 12 years. The League Cup we haven’t won for years so I want to bring those moments back, that is my aim.

For us it has to be a habit to win trophies and you know for us that hasn’t been a habit for many years. What I want to bring back, what the players want to bring back , that is your work. Sometimes you know the performances aren’t well.

I’ve been a manager and player for so many years, I had a worse spell as a manager at Feyenoord where we lost seven games in a row. After that we won five finals in three years, that is football as well.
