Ange Postecoglou won’t lose any sleep over the critics pointing and sniggering at Celtic’s Champions League points tally.

With one match to go Celtic are guaranteed bottom place in Group F, even a win over Real Madrid on Wednesday won’t offer them European football after Christmas.

It is highly unlikely that Celtic will add to their points tally in the Bernabeu but the thousands of fans inside the stadium will see a brave performance based on attack and a determination to add to the total of three points from five matches.

Postecoglou knows what the critics are saying, at a recent media conference a BBC Scotland reporter tried to bundle the hoops in with club’s that had been spanked 5-1 and 7-1.

Celtic weren’t going to win this season’s Champions League but rather than park the bus the players have discovered what the difference is between competing and winning against Europe’s top side.

Reviewing Celtic’s Champions League fate, Postecoglou told The Scotsman:

It depends, because some people just look at the scoreboard and that’s their only measure.

I don’t know why half of them go to games. Because their only analysis around the whole game is ‘they won’, ‘they lost’ and that’s it. We know, internally, what’s important.

If we play our football against one of the best club sides in the world away from home it will give us more belief and fuel to come back next year and put on stronger performances.
