Albian Ajeti hasn’t given up on his Celtic career.

The striker was signed from West Ham in the summer of 2020 but after a promising start his form nosedived in common with his team-mates as the world collapsed around Neil Lennon.

It was the grimmest of times to arrive at Celtic, by the end of the 2020/21 season the first team squad was in tatters with Ange Postecoglou left to pick up the pieces.

The Australian managed to revive the careers of Tony Ralston, Tom Rogic and Greg Taylor but despite opening the door there was nothing that he could do for Ajeti or Vasilis Barkas.

An injury to Kyogo Furuhashi in September allowed Ajeti a couple of appearances but the Swiss internationalist hasn’t been seen since pulling a hamstring against Real Betis last December.

Now on loan at Sturm Graz, Ajeti speculated about the possibility of returning to Celtic in an interview with Football Scotland:

Listen, you never know. I still have two years contract there at Celtic. I will try and get as much game time here as possible and score as many goals as possible, staying healthy obviously. Then we will see what happens at the end of the season.

It is difficult to see a way back for Ajeti at Celtic but if he gets among the goals at Sturm Graz the hoops might be able to recover something of the £5m fee that they paid to West Ham.
