Michael Stewart has laughed at the VAR explanation for disallowing Jota’s ‘goal’ at Motherwell last night.

Just before the hour mark Kyogo Furuhashi threaded through a perfect ball that the former Benfica winger ran onto the dinked his shot over Liam Kelly for a Goal of the Season contender before the linesman raised his flag.

After a short pause to check the goal at the VAR studio play resumed with a free kick to Motherwell.

It was a marginal call, it could have gone either way but soon afterwards a VAR image was broadcast showing a picture taken from around 40 yards away from the incident.

Covering Sportcene last night, The Sun reports:

Laughing as he began to speak, Stewart said: “This was clear as mud. It’s very, very tight. I think he’s probably marginally off, you can see his body position is leaning forward and I would say maybe his head is slightly off.”

After a media charm offensive in the build up to VAR there hasn’t been a word from Crawford Allan or the SFA offering any explanations.

A simple report with a couple of VAR line images on the SFA website an hour after the final whistle would go a long way towards clearing confusion.

  • Tam says:

This was a grade 1 referee making this decision he has slow motion replays, alsorts of angles, even on screen lines to help, and once again another grade 1 referee either Is told or chooses not to have a look at the incident

  • Brian says:

Aye let’s give them an hour to piss about with lines and so on. All we ask is for the same treatment as every other team. P.s. nothing said about the hand ball in the huns game wich was worse than the one we got against us in the united game. Corrupt!!!

  • Michael Conway says:

VAR or the clowns using it need to be scrapped its not working

  • SFATHENADIROFCHIFTINESS says:

Unless the Board get their ars@s into gear it’s going to cost us big.
7 points is not a big lead when you weigh up the decisions that have gone against us.
Couple of ‘Off Nights’ for us and the odd penalty here and there. Another offside decision against us and we’re dropping points in tight games.
Not forgetting the two Derby Games with perhaps Cheatin Beaton as the MIB with a,n. Other as the VAR Man waitin in the stye.
Sevco NEED to win the league to get the guaranteed entry to the Champions League. With EUFA watching their finances they have no room to manoeuvre. No More Directors Loans. They can’t even spend money in the January ‘Sales’ and will have to persevere with the dross that they have. They need help, Mega style to get over the line.
