Celtic have been linked with a January loan move for Mohamed Magdy.
Known as Afsha, the attacking midfielder plays for Al Ahly where he will be well aware about expectations and the pressure of being at a club that is expected to win every game and trophy going.
Matt O’Riley is currently Ange Postecoglou’s first choice attacking midfielder but earlier this month the Celtic boss spoke about the transfer cycle where popular players will move on with his man task being to identify and recruit fresh talent.
Postecoglou has frequently used the loan market, bringing in Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers initially on loan before handing permanent deals in the summer for combined fees of around £12m.
The Sun reports:
Attacking midfielder Afsha plays for Cairo giants Al Ahly and signed a new contract two years ago, but he’s been consistently linked with a move to Europe.
He’s been instrumental in Al-Ahly’s success in the last two years, helping them to a total of seven trophies since arriving from Pyramids FC.
He saw a £300,000 move to Sivasspor collapse in August and his agent, Abdel-Rahman Ismail, said then: “He received an offer from the Turkish League but it did not match Al Ahly’s financial demands.
“We are working to provide other opportunities for Afsha and there are already some preliminary talks with other clubs in Europe, but that hasn’t materialised into official offers yet.”
Now Egyptian media reports suggest Celtic want to take him on loan with an option to buy when the transfer window reopens in January.
Afsha, who links up with Liverpool legend Mo Salah for Egypt, has won 13 caps for his country and has twice helped Al-Ahly reach the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals.
Celtic made an early start to their January transfer plans with the signing of Yuki Kobayaski with the promise of more to follow.
No Egyptian player has ever been at Celtic before but with five signings from the J-League Postecoglou has shown that he isn’t afraid to break new grounds.
