Ibrox fans are waking up this morning to the reality that there is no sign of the club paying off Giovanni van Bronckhorst as manager.

Saturday’s 1-1 draw at St Mirren followed by Celtic opening up a nine point lead at the top of the SPFL Premiership proved to be a tipping point for many bears as they demanded change at the top.

Social media, message boards and podcasts were rammed with angry bears demanding better with a number of fanciful names put forward to replace the Dutchman.

There was no comment from their club following Saturday’s match, Remembrance Sunday isn’t the day to sack a manager but as Monday passed by there is a growing realisation that nothing is about to change.

Late on Monday night the Daily Record had disappointing news for their army of readers:

Record Sport revealed the under-fire boss had flown back to the Netherlands without talks with the board over his future.

On top of that, it’s understood Ibrox powerbrokers still haven’t even met to discuss the manager’s situation – despite reports to the contrary.

While fans drool over Micky Beale and profile exotic foreign names to put Celtic in their place the reality is that David Martindale, Robbie Neilson and Neil Warnock are the likely candidates with Barry Ferguson, Neil McCann or Kevin Thomson added to the management team as someone who knows the weight of the jersey, the proud traditions and all the usual guff.

With a contract that runs until May 2025 paying off van Bronckhorst would wip out the Player Trading profit from the summer leaving the next manager with diddly squat as he tries to rebuild an ageing squad that has switched off after a series of brutal results since September 3.
