Vasilis Barkas managed to get sent off in an international friendly- without taking part in the match.

The goalkeeper’s form for Utrecht has earned him a recall into the Greek national squad which is managed by Gus Poyet.

A friendly against Malta is about as low-key as internationals get but late in the game from the substitute bench barkas managed to earn a red card.

A French based Twitter account on Greek football reported:

Grosse contestation de la Grèce (Fyssas prend un jaune sur le banc, et Barkas est expulsé) après une main non-sifflée dans la surface suite à un corner.

Translated from French

Big dispute from Greece (Fyssas takes a yellow on the bench, and Barkas is expelled) after a non-whistling hand in the box following a corner.

Barkas never seemed the emotional type during his two seasons at Celtic.Signed by Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell after Fraser Forster turned down the opportunity to return on loan from Celtic the former AEK Athens keeper’s name and Albian Ajeti will be forever associated with the disastrous lockdown season.

David Turnbull is the only survivor from the Celtic signings of season 20/21 although Barkas and Albian Ajeti are due back from loans at the end of the season.
