Simon Jordan has laid into Giovanni van Bronckhorst while the Scottish media walk on egg shells over his record breaking Champions League performance.

Six defeats from six matches with a goal difference of -20 outperformed Vitoria Plzen who were in the original group of death alongside Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

After every defeat van Bronckhorst trotted out half-hearted excuses that no one questioned then talked things up as he predicted an improved performance as he previewed the next match. It never arrived.

If there were funds at Ibrox and an obvious successor van Bronckhorst would be under pressure but a contract until May 2025 acts as his insurance policy.

While the gullible discuss Michael Beale and Mister Gerrard the reality is that David Martindale and Robbie Neilson are the front runners with a new management team branded as ‘Real Rainjurz Men’.

Picking up on Jordan’s comments on TalkSPORT, the Daily Record reports the former Crystal Palace chief saying:

I think Gio should have been stronger and called it what it was: not good enough. It’s not good enough, it’s a learning curve but it’s as disappointing for us as it is for the fans.

Rather than list off all the reasons it’s not good enough – injuries, 24 games et cetera – nobody wants to hear that. It’s mealy-mouthed and weak.

Jordan added:

He’s had 15 or 16 months. The tragedy is that he got them together, he got them a great prize because what they did in the Europa League was incredibly commendable.

This campaign is diminishing in one respect because the players and the manager have accepted their fates and that’s translated onto the pitch. Obviously they beat Aberdeen at the weekend, they were poor previously against Livingston but Aberdeen are no mugs and they’ve beaten them convincingly.

The board will look at what he’s done last year, look at the narrative being built up by the media, and the fans, and it will all come to a head if they get smashed by Celtic again in January.

Jim White was in mourning.
