Spare me this nonsense- furious Kris Boyd hits out at Celtic’s media manipulation of Champions League disaster

Kris Boyd has let all of his anger at Celtic spill out into an incredible column in The Sun.

It seems that another Scottish club going into the record books as the worst ever to play in the Champions League has jarred a very raw nerve with the former Kilmarnock striker.

After a token mention of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side Boyd wades straight into an attack on Celtic’s Champions League illusion claiming that they managed to manipulate media organisations into reporting on a successful campaign.

So much so that after reading the reports on the 5-1 defeat from Real Madrid he had to go back to watch the game again to ensure that he had got the scoreline correct.

A check on the websites of The Sun or Sky Sports would have saved Boyd from re-watching the match. Surely Boyd isn’t doubting the reporting skills of his colleagues at both organisations?

Is Kris Boyd right about Celtic's Champions League performance?

Yes, we can't delude ourselves, it was awful

Yes, we can't delude ourselves, it was awful

No, he hasn't a clue, we are moving forward, progressing

No, he hasn't a clue, we are moving forward, progressing

Celtic were beaten 5-1, given a chasing at times, it made for some uncomfortable viewing for Celtic fans but the club has a manager with a plan that supporters believe in.

A manager who doesn’t talk in media-speak, delivering bland pointless interviews. Almost always Postecoglou has something of interest to say.

Unlike some fans, Celtic supporters keenly look forward to matches, there is an excitement, folk want to be there, tickets are in demand.

Boyd fails to grasp any of that, the man that thinks Alfredo Morelos is the best player in Scotland told The Sun:

I was taken aback when I listened to the reaction and read the headlines on Thursday morning. So much so I had to go back and watch Celtic’s game in Madrid again.

I genuinely thought my mind was playing tricks on me. But after a second viewing, the score was still 5-1 to Real and not the other way round.

Still, fair play to Celtic for trying to portray the narrative this was a hard luck story. They are very good at having everybody believe they have been hard done by in Europe.

Yes, Rangers’ campaign was nothing short of diabolical. That is undeniable. They have been rank rotten from start to finish.

To have the worst goal difference in the competition ever of minus 20 is nowhere near good enough.

Celtic were slightly better, but spare me this nonsense about how they went out on their shield.

And if we want to number crunch and judge teams by statistics, the Hoops don’t come out of this campaign looking too clever either.

Over the course of their Group F campaign they had over 80 attempts on goal. Over 30 of them were on target.

Yet, they scored just four times and one of them was an own goal. They also conceded 15 times. It doesn’t exactly make for good reading if you want to cut through the nonsense.

A win against Dundee United today will put Celtic seven points clear at the top of the SPFL Premiership and well on course for a place in next season’s group stage draw for the Champions League.

Somebody ought to tell this clown that you need a brain first,Nobody ever said we had a successful time in or group, but making 80chances against the quality of opposition was not too bad,yes we could have defended better and showed a bit more composure around both penalty boxes,I believe that this a a fair assumption our play.Far better to go out trying and just not turn up.

  • Ed says:

If Boyd sees the stats he can’t read.
According to UEFA statistics, Celtic should have gotten 7 points out of the 6 matches.
If it wasn’t for our terrible finishing and our underperforming defencively we should have had more points. 4 against Shakthar and 3 against RB Leipzig.

  • Scud Missile says:

    Pass the sick bucket Kris.

  • Sean McGinley says:

Although Madrid were good, its easy to relax and run amok if you have the skills and …..2 penalties to get you started. Chris should know the effect of a head start from penalties !!!
