Barry Ferguson’s relief at no Beale spending spree

Barry Ferguson is reassured that there won’t be a January spending spree at Ibrox.

Being on the UEFA watch list and with no European matches to look forward to in the new year has sent a shock through Ibrox.

The anticipation of a massive turnover in players quickly switched to how Micky Beale could improve everyone, even Rabbi Matondo, while the return from injury of players like Kemar Roofe and Ianis Hagi will actually be the equivalent of new signings.

It is a predictable narrative for club with no money, reinforcing that message Ferguson tells Daily Record readers:

But January is a notoriously tough window so it’s reassuring to hear Beale say that he won’t be wasting money on players who aren’t up to the job.

We all saw what happened last January when Rangers rushed through late deals for Aaron Ramsey and Amad Diallo at the eleventh hour. These deadline day moves may have appeased some frustrated supporters but, to be brutally honest, neither of them made the slightest bit of difference where it really matters, on the pitch. It seems to me as if Beale won’t be pushed into doing something similar this time around.

He’ll stay calm and think clearly. And that’s why keeping hold of Steven Davis will probably be at the very top of his wish-list.

On February 11, Ferguson told Record readers:

Ramsey is a top quality operator – a proven match winner on the European and international stage and probably one of the most exciting talents to have come to Scottish football in the last two decades – so Rangers couldn’t say ‘no’ when the opportunity presented itself.

The usual rumours about bringing Billy Gilmour home are circulating alongside very little else.

  • BriBhoy says:

Keeping Steven Davis will be key? Erm…. Steptoe Davis is out for the season Barry, so he will make even less difference than Ramsey or Diallo did. Or than he (Davis) has the rest of this season, when he’s actually been fit enough to make it onto the pitch. Apart from helping Turnbull get Celtic’s fourth in the last derby game. If pinning your hopes on a soon to be out of contract, injured player, who will soon be pushing 40, is your Plan A, then you know you’re fecked.

They have £50 million in the talent of Arfield, another OAP alongside Fred Davis and McGregor etc, etc.

Lol Billy Gilmour they would be better with Happy Gilmour.
Remember Gilmour couldn’t get a game for Chelsea and struggled for game time at Norwich,he has flop written all over him.
If he is the best they can bring to the table they are in BIG SOAPY BUBBLE.
