Keanu Baccus is being lined up for a key role in Micky Beale’s cut price revolution.

It is believed that Ibrox spies were in the stand at the Toni Maccaroni Stadium last night to run the rule over the St Mirren midfielder.

With Steve Davis crocked and Ryan Jack running down his contract Baccus could be in line for a move to Ibrox as early as next month.

Beale was told that he would have to be imaginative in the transfer market with St Mirren’s first ever World Cup star the level of arrival that Ibrox fans can look forward to as the club finally try to live within their means without director loans on generous terms.

Late on Thursday night The Sun reported:

RANGERS are tracking St Mirren’s Australian World Cup star Keanu Baccus.

Ibrox scouts are whittling down their January options for new boss Michael Beale.

And SunSport understands the 24-year-old Buddies midfielder Baccus is being considered as a possible January target.

The Aussie earned rave reviews for his performances in Qatar with a number of English clubs interested.

Saints are in a strong  position with their star player under contract until the summer of 2024.

Baccus moved to Paisley last summer from Western Sydney, making 16 appearances in the SPFL either side of four appearances at the World Cup Finals.

In another boost for Beale John Souttar is expected to resume training in 7-10 days, the former Hearts star has made one appearance since his summer move to the SPFL runners up.
