Jonny Kenny is reported to be heading to Shamrock Rovers on loan.
The striker is currently on loan at Queens Park but has yet to score a goal after two starts and 11 appearances off the bench in the Scottish Championship.
That hasn’t worked out as intended with a return to the League of Ireland the most likely route to revive Kenny’s development with Rovers winning last season’s title and enjoying a tilt at the UEFA Conference.
The Independent reports:
Sligo Rovers fans are set to be disappointed as local lad Johnny Kenny looks set to join Shamrock Rovers on loan, with a possible option to buy at the end of the season long loan.
Kenny joined Celtic earlier this year, and has been on loan with Queen’s Park in recent weeks, a move that has not worked out.
It’s understood Kenny was interested in returning to the League of Ireland on loan and was in talks with a number of clubs to try and jump-start his career as first team football in Scotland has been difficult to find.
Sligo Rovers manager John Russell is understood to have met Kenny on a number of occasions to discuss a return to the Bit O’Red on loan, with those talks very positive.
The jump from Sligo Rovers to Celtic was always going to be a big ask for Kenny with a loan deal in The Championship offering a halfway house.
Queens Park are very serious about winning a place in next season’s Premiership resulting in limited opportunities for their on loan striker.
A February to November season at Shamrock Rovers should get Kenny back in form with the two clubs doing business last August when Liam Scales left Dublin for Celtic.
