Celtic appear close to signing Tomoki Iwata, initially on loan from Yokohama F Marinos with a $1m US fee agreed between the two clubs.

The deal sounds very similar to the one involving Daizen Maeda who made the same move 12 months ago.

Iwata was named in the J-League Team of the Season, with Japanese football now in the close season clubs are more prepared to listen to offers for their players.

Having already negotiated deals to bring Ange Postecoglou and Maeda to Scotland there shouldn’t be any unexpected issues in a deal to add Iwata to the Japanese contingent at Celtic Park.

Transferred to Yokohama DF Iwata Celtic. It is said that the transfer fee will be an estimated $ 1 million (about 133 million yen) in a loan transfer with the option of a permanent transfer.

It seems that there is incredible value to be had from the Japanese market. Even if things haven’t worked out for Yosuke Ideguchi a success rate of 75% with Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate and Maeda is good going for inter-continental transfers.

Yuki Kobayashi has already joined Celtic from Vissel Kobe with his move finalised on January 1 when the transfer window opens.
