After two false starts Carl Starfelt is hoping that his season is now up and running.

An injury picked up on international duty at the end of last season ruled him out of Celtic’s pre-season action and the first two SPFL matches.

In his second SPFL start Starfelt suffered a knee injury during the Glasgow derby that developed into a two month absence before returning to action in the final Champions League tie away to Real Madrid.

After another one and a half matches the World Cup break arrived but on the plus side the Swede has had plenty of time to build on his fitness with his partnership alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers delivering a clean sheet at Aberdeen on Saturday.

It was tough. Especially the second injury I got when I was not long back from the first one. That was a tough period for me. It is all over now and I am just happy to be back on the pitch. When you get these long injuries, you are just happy to be back and take the positives.

Carter-Vickers and Starfelt played every minute of Celtic final 18 SPFL matches of last season as the hoops turned a six point deficit into a four point winning margin.

Central defence doesn’t seem to be an area that Ange Postecoglou likes to rotate with last season’s favoured duo expected to start against Livingston on Wednesday night.
