Ange Postecoglou won’t be losing any sleep over speculation that Giorgos Giakoumakis is unhappy about his Celtic contract.

Last summer the Celtic boss went out of his way to persuade the striker to join Celtic from VVV Venlo, once that had been completed a contract running until May 2026 was signed.

After a slow, injury interrupted start to his Celtic career Giakoumakis has been in outstanding form this year, alternating with Kyogo Furuhashi to provide Postecoglou with two clear strike options.

It seems unusual that there are problems with a contract not much more than a year old but that was the claim that broke in midweek.

In a poorly worded question asking if he would ‘encourage players to go out and get game time if they have those sort of issues’ Postecoglou made his stance very clear.

No, I don’t have those kind of discussions, ultimately what I deal with is what I see every day. Every player trains presents himself here, that is what I deal with.

If I see there is any shift there if people are unhappy, or have some issues, I’ll deal with it. Right now, all I see is the players here training and committed to us as a football club. That is all that concerns me.

Beyond that, with there contracts, they have representatives who look after them. If there are any issues, they’ll come across my desk but that is in the background.

What’s more important to me is what I see everyday. If I am happy with it, all good, if not I’ll deal with it then.

This season Giakoumakis has scored eight goals from seven starts and 14 appearances off the bench.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.
