Michael Beale is hoping to dump James Sands back to New York City.

Alex Rae led the cheerleading a year ago as the utility man was signed on loan but it soon became apparent that the 22-year-old was out of his depth in a number of positions.

Sands’ led a charmed life with Scottish referees but achieved a rare feat in September when he was sent off at Ibrox- by a foreign referee in the Champions League defeat from Napoli.

Despite making four appearances in the Champions League the utility man was left out of the USA squad for the World Cup Finals and is now set for a return to the big apple.

After singing the praises of Malik Tillman who is on loan from Bayern Munch Beale told the Daily Record:

Obviously we’ve got a couple of loan players in and we’ve got to make a decision on whether we want to retain them longer term. If we don’t maybe there will be an opportunity for them to go back as well.

I want players who are going to be here for the long-term and can compete right now to make us stronger but also for the long-term too You are trying to get two for every position, three in goal and three up front.

With Nicolas Raskin expected to join Todd Cantwell at Ibrox the return of Sands and sale of Charlie McCann for an undisclosed fee keeps the Ibrox squad numbers at the same level.
