A stash of weapons including a baseball bat were discovered inside Ibrox ahead of Monday’s match against Celtic.

Officially approved by the club, the Union Bears were given access to the stadium on Saturday to prepare their tifo for Monday’s match.

Somewhere down the line Police Scotland decided to search areas of the Broomloan Road Stand with the tifo called off.

The Sun reports:

A STASH of “potentially dangerous” items was discovered inside Ibrox Stadium hours before Monday’s Old Firm clash. Cops at the powderkeg fixture found the haul, including a baseball bat, in a bin.

It came to light after members of ultras fan group the Union Bears were given early access to Rangers’ ground to place banners ahead of the 12.30pm kick-off.

They were thrown out by police and club staff after a “cursory search” revealed the items.

A source told The Scottish Sun: “There were about a dozen items including a baseball bat. Who knows why they were there or who put them there but it’s obviously very disturbing. Cops and club staff deserve credit for making the find and acting so swiftly.”

Two men — part of the group allowed in early — were later charged with minor drug offences.

Superintendent Emma Croft said last night: “Police engaged with a group of supporters given access to Ibrox in advance of the Rangers v Celtic fixture.

“During a cursory search, a number of potentially dangerous items were found secreted in the stadium.”

There has been no comment from the club who have a very close relationship with the Union Bears, in 2021 they fan group were pictured inside the home dressing room.

Long overdue that Celtic return and refuse their ticket allocation. It’s too dangerous for our supporters.

  • Stevie Brown says:

What next? Plant bombs in the away section. Rangers know exactly who was in that ground, surely CCTV would be in operation for security reasons otherwise its a free for all to plant anything before game’s. Fingerprint every item found. Simples then you catch whoever is responsible. I don’t believe for a minute Rangers FC just allow anybody into the ground to allegedly to set stuff up, without knowing what is exactly happening. If so security should be sacked.

Editor: Surely CCTV was in operation………… not when it is required. See Joe Hart, glass, penalty box.

We are still waiting for the outcome of the police inquiry, SFA SPFL inquiry, the rangers inquiry. Into the last time we went there . The only information we have been given was cctv footage didn’t “help” I’m sure that’s not all they used for the inquiries. The excuses for “not” finding these animals has begun already

That’s the way of the newco the sfa & the police must take action

  • Bob (original) says:

After 2 Ibrox matches with serious incidents against CFC staff and supporters,
our Board has to take a stance.

It has to declare that – as the safety of supporters can’t be guaranteed – no tickets will be taken for Ibrox matches, until further notice.

But, then again, the problem remains that the club / employer cannot guarantee the safety of its employees at the workplace.

…and if we had a competent SFA, it would have taken control before now – to avoid this situation developing…

  • the maister says:

The SFA has to insist on a “Fair Allocation” of tickets for our “Away Supporters” and our “Board” have to back them. But don’t expect it to happen from either of them!
Again the Govan club act exactly as they want to!

  • Darren says:

There is only one reason the Gummie Bears hid weapons at letterbox. To attack us Celtic supporters! Nothing will be done about it, nobody will be banned and charged.
