Anthony Stewart has rightly been condemned for his Hampden red card.

With extra-time looming the Aberdeen defender launched himself into an utterly pointless attack on Fashion Sakala that left his team-mates, manager and supporters shaking their heads in disbelief.

There wasn’t much of a case to be made against the red card that Nick Walsh produced- unless you look at an incident 10 minutes earlier involving Borna Barisic.

The attack on Matty Kennedy was a few degrees less violent that Stewart on Sakala but was well worthy of a sending off.

Both feet were clearly off the ground, Barisic launched himself from behind with no prospect of getting the ball but Bearsden PE teacher Walsh decided that it was only worth a yellow card.

In 24 domestic matches this season Walsh has refereed the Ibrox side six times with all matches played in Glasgow.

First time I’ve seen that: brutal lunge.

And no need for VAR official either to suggest a review of the card colour?

  • Dando says:

When I watched it at first I thought no… but watching it again, it’s a two footed lunge.. VAR red card ….
