Oliver Abildgaard is expected to leave Celtic before the close of the transfer window.

The midfielder moved from Rubin Kazan on a season long loan back in August but has been restricted to nine substitute appearances, the last of them being a 10 minute run out away to Motherwell on November 9.

The arrival of Tomoki Iwata gives Ange Postecoglou six genuine options for midfield places with Abildgaard pushed further down the roster.

Former Celtic View reporter David Friel reports in The Sun Transfer Blog:

Dane Oliver Abildgaard is another Celtic player who could leave in the coming hours.

The midfielder is wanted by Aalborg in his homeland and there is a chance his one-year deal could be cut short.

Abildgaard, 26, hasn’t featured since the Premiership restarted after the World Cup and could be allowed to move on.

He was signed on a year-long deal from Rubin Kazan in the summer but has failed to break into Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Moritz Jenz has already cut his loan short, joining Schalke 04 last week.

In his fourth transfer window it looks like Postecoglou has almost got the squad that he wants to work with, this month four players have arrived with three that have been involved in the first team likely to leave.

There are however nine players out on loan with time running down on the contracts of Ismaila Soro, Albian Ajeti and Vasilis Barkas.

Celtic never really started for Liam Shaw, Osaze Urhoghide or Liam Shaw while Academy graduates Mikey Johnston and Adam Montgomery have their work cut out to find a way back into Postecoglou’s plans.
