DJ Ewan McVicar has given an insight into the twin passions in Jota’s life- football and music.
The winger finally cut his official ties with Benfica last summer to join Celtic in a £6m deal that was greeted with joy by the hoops support.
‘Jota on the wing’ is a popular chant around Celtic Park with the winger giving a few hints that he enjoys singing along to the chants from the stands.
The 23-year-old is rarely on social media but during a You Tube show McVicar gave an insight into what the Celtic hero is like behind closed doors.
Picking up on the show Football Scotland reports the DJ saying:
We’ve both got the same accountant, right? And the accountant goes ‘Jota has asked me to ask you if you can teach him how to DJ, or what he needs?’ Because he’s just in his house, I was like ‘sound.’
I went round to his house – unbelievable. I goes in and he’s got a big massive whiteboard, there’s no white on the whiteboard, just tactics everywhere. He’s so organised.
I sat down and he’s got a wee notepad. I’ve never seen anyone who wants to learn music go this far into it, that’s obviously what he’s like when he’s passionate about something.
He likes tunes. He likes dance music and he’s like ‘what do I need to get started?’ He’s went and bought the full set-up. He’s got a full set of decks.
Some might think that Jota’s skills are instinctive but it seems clear that he works very hard to ensure that he makes the most of his natural ability.
In December 2021 he missed out on the League Cup Final victory over Hibs due to injury but on Sunday he looks like playing a key role in the destination of the trophy.
