Chris Sutton has called Micky Beale out (by name) in the Daily Record after the Ibrox boss whispered the name of the former Chelsea striker to his newspaper mates.

Three months inside the Ibrox bubble surrounded by drooling phase have fed an ego that suffered a lifetime of neglect but now is overwhelmed by attention.

Rejected by Charlton as a teenager and suffering the same fate at Twente Enschede, Beale lived his life very much in the shadow as a youth coach at Chelsea and Liverpool.

When he tried being an assistant manager in Brazil he lasted 12 matches before returning to Merseyside as head coach of the Liverpool u-5s.

Previously at Ibrox he was somewhere in the background to Mister Gerrard and Gary McAllister, now he front and centre and lapping up every minute of the attention.

On Thursday he took aim at Sutton- Henrik Larsson and Alan Shearer’s former team-mate hasn’t been shy to fire straight back with interest.

In the Daily Record Sutton took aim with:

I suspect someone might be feeling a bit of stress after scrambling past Partick Thistle last week and Celtic lurking around the corner.

That must be the reason for a certain Rangers manager amusingly getting his knickers in a twist over me asking a perfectly valid question. At least I think it was me he was ranting about as the worst player he ever saw at Chelsea. Who knows, maybe it was Didier Drogba.

Either way, Mick Beale – you see, it is easy to use real names – is clearly a bit touchy and I was going to hit back with a pop at his playing career. But I had a Google and it turned out I couldn’t find anything about it… Listen, a certain manager – sorry, Beale – is entitled to his opinion. But so am I. It’s my job. The great thing about football is people love talking about it and pundits are there to spark debate or take part in it.

And if simply talking about a major moment in last week’s game gets under his skin then goodness knows how he’s going to cope long term in the Rangers job. You aren’t going to survive long in Glasgow if you have skin thinner than cheap toilet roll.

With today’s match at Livingston not being shown live on television Beale will be out to provide his newspaper pals and Radio Scotland with some big soundbites, I fink.
