Two very different manager have tried it in various ways and neither has been able to stop Angeball from dominating the Glasgow derby.

Last April after a 1-1 draw in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup Celtic lost out to turbo-charged opponents but that came after wins at Celtic Park and Ibrox had taken them six points clear in the race for the SPFL title.

Twice in the space of seven months Giovanni van Bronckhorst watched his side get battered at Celtic Park, in six weeks time Micky Beale can apply his tactical brilliance to that task.

At Ibrox in January Beale had home advantage and failed. Yesterday at Hampden he had two superb January signings beside him on the bench watching Lundstram and Kamara toiling to get on the ball.

Leaving out Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin confirms the view that Beale isn’t yet convinced that they are both the world-beaters they were portrayed as.

If the dynamic duo fail to get selected or fail to beat Celtic on April 8 the judgement of the manager will be called out as Beale’s early adulation follows the path of Giovanni van Bronckhorst into derision before picking up his pay-off and packing up.
