A campaign has been launched to increase the standing section at Celtic Park to include most of the Jock Stein Lower Stand.

In the summer of 2016 the corner of the stadium joining the North Stand to the Lisbon Lions Stand had 2,6000 Rail Seats installed which allowed fans to stand at domestic matches but reverted back to seating for European matches.

The initiative has been an outstanding success, a number of English clubs have followed on with seated areas converted to standing but without any of the issues of mass terracing from the eighties and nineties.

Now due to the popularity of the venture a campaign has been launched to increase the Standing Section across the front section of the Jock Stein Stand.

Should Celtic make the whole Jock Stein Lower a Standing Section?

On their website The Celtic End explains:

Most iconic stadiums and clubs have famous, traditional ends which vociferously and colourfully support their team. Sadly, Celtic Park lacks such a stand.

The current standing section holds 2,700 with a similar number on a waiting list. Bhoys Celtic currently occupy the opposite corner and are growing in number.

On European nights, most of the Lisbon Lions end will stand. At Hampden, the entire goal end – and usually more – will stand.

Given the option, we believe tens of thousands would choose to stand at matches and we believe this would transform the atmosphere in Celtic Park for the better.

There will be hundreds of fans unhappy with the plan, they’ve sat in the same seats for years, perhaps decades and won’t want to move on.

It will be a difficult issue for the club but the ball is rolling, perhaps within five years Celtic Park will have a Green Wall to match the Yellow equivalent in Dortmund.
