Tony Ralston has been called up to the Scotland squad for the European Championship qualifiers against Cyprus and Spain.

The Celtic defender has only made one appearance since the turn of the year with Alistair Johnston establishing himself as the replacement for Josip Juranovic.

Ralston scored for Scotland at home to Armenia in June and picked up two caps in September but was left out of the 23 man squad named by Steve Clarke with David Turnbull suffering a similar fate.

Nathan Patterson is Clarke’s first choice right-back but with his lack of playing time at Everton Ralston could be involved in this week’s matches.

International breaks can be a worry for club bosses but if Ralston can pick up some playing time it is bound to be welcomed by Ange Postecoglou.

Johnston is in the Canada squad that faces Curacao (a Caribbean island) on Saturday followed by Honduras at home on Tuesday evening.
