John Wark has given an incredible assessment of Todd Cantwell, suggesting that he might not have been paying attention recently.

Halfway through last season Norwich were happy to send the Tik Tok star on loan to Bournemouth only to have him returned to see out the final year of his Carrow Road deal.

When you are on the bench watching Kenny McLean it is time to take drastic action, after allowing Micky Beale to stare into his eyes he was on board for a move to Ibrox and a lucrative new contract.

‘I like the fact that he doesn’t hide in games’ is one quite from Wark which suggests that he hasn’t been paying attention. At Pittodrie and Celtic Park Cantwell has been noted by his absence as he looks around for inspiration elsewhere in the team.

Picking up on an interview with a gambling firm, The Sun reports Wark saying:

I’m familiar with Todd Cantwell from his Norwich days – and what I’ve seen of him in a Rangers shirt, he’s really impressed me. He looks like a proper Rangers player and will get better under Michael Beale’s coaching.

I like the fact he doesn’t hide in games – he’s always hungry, looking for the ball and has pace to make things happen. He’s direct and positive.

A win on Sunday would be a great springboard for Michael Beale and the squad he’s pulling together. Win or lose, he’s still got a big job to do.

Cantwell will be looking for a starting place at Hampden on Sunday, at the Viaplay Cup Final in February he was on the bench alongside Nico Raskin.

During the seventies and eighties Wark was one of the best midfielders in England, regularly hitting 15-20 goals per season.
